Following the award-winning success of East End Stage 1 – winner of the 2022 Newcastle Architecture Awards – East End Stage 2 continues the transformation of Newcastle’s city centre, bringing together exceptional design, heritage integration, and vibrant community spaces.
A collaboration between CKDS Architecture and Iris Capital, Stage 2 introduces two striking new buildings, Soul and Lyrique, which pay homage to the site’s cultural legacy by reimagining the former Lyrique Theatre. The development delivers 116 premium residential apartments and the sensitive reconfiguration of five historic dwellings, blending contemporary living with Newcastle’s architectural heritage.
At the heart of the project is the extension of Lyrique Lane, a landscaped pedestrian corridor that connects Wolfe and Thorn Streets. This new laneway is designed to be more than a thoroughfare—it will be activated by 1,400m² of curated retail, including boutique dining and specialty stores, and will feature the restored Lyrique Theatre as a cultural touchpoint.
